This is an exciting opportunity to join the HR team as a HR Advisor that provides a range of services to NY Highways.
North Yorkshire Council provide a range of SLA’s to NY Highways. NY Highways operates as a commercial business to provide highways services and maintenance to both the public and private sectors across the region by combining a commercial focus with public sector values.
NY Highways offers a range of services to support commercial businesses, organisations, developers and landowners in North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. This includes maintaining and improving roads, car parks, footpaths and pavements, as well as maintenance of gullies and streetlighting. In addition, NY Highways provide winter maintenance services during the colder months and offers an MOT service in the Northallerton area.
This is a great opportunity and will be ideal for an individual who enjoys a varied role, working as part of small yet busy HR team. We are looking for someone who will focus on providing an advisory service to NY Highways colleagues on a range of employment matters including the application of Employment policies and procedures. You will be responsible for producing monthly and quarterly workforce data reports and supporting a rolling communications programme to promote HR activities.
You will also have significant experience of managing and advising on a wide range of HR related issues with minimal supervision. Experience of supporting workforce change and/or projects is also required. Due to the nature of the role you will be able to work in a pressurised environment, with minimum supervision, able to use their own initiative and be able to manage a busy workload with competing priorities.
You will need to have excellent IT skills, be able to use and manipulate data from a range of Microsoft Office packages and HR systems especially, MS Office, ResourceLink, Sharepoint and data systems such as PowerBi.
This is a role that will be predominantly office based and work from the Finkills Way Office at Northallerton. Regular travel across the county may also be required in order to deliver the service to the operational areas of NY Highways.
For an informal conversation about the role and the service then please contact Lynne Halls, Principal HR Advisor, on either 01609 767184 or Lynne.Halls@northyorks.gov.uk

Company
From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.
The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.
Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep. This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK. North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
