SENDIASS is part of the National Information and Advice Support Service. We are arm’s length to the Local Authority and our main role is to give impartial and confidential information, advice and support to parents/carers, children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. We continue to adapt and develop the Service to meet the needs of our service users.
You would be responsible for a caseload of children and young people requiring SENDIASS support and advice as well as advising parents/carers/young people and professionals from across the county during help line duty. When required you would support parents/carers/young people during mediation meetings and Tribunal Hearings. Every co-ordinator is responsible for at least one volunteer to whom you will give support and regular supervision. Opportunity will be given to extend your SEND law knowledge.
You must evidence that you have a working knowledge of legislation for special educational needs and disabilities with experience of working directly with children, young people (0-25) and parents/carers. As well as being able to demonstrate you have experience in mediating during disputes.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to strive to meet the National Minimum Standards. It will be necessary for you to work with a range of other professionals across education, health, social care and voluntary sectors. You may also be required to deliver training to parents/carers/young people and other professionals.
The minimum academic requirement is a Diploma in Social Work or other professional qualification in Education or Healthcare. You will need to provide evidence at the pre-screening stage.
· The use of a car and the ability to travel around across the county as and when required.
· You will need an enhanced DBS and meet safer recruitment requirements.
· A positive and committed approach with the ability to work with challenge and adversity.

Company
From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.
The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.
Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep. This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK. North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
