Team Manager – Adult Social Care
St Helena Island, South Atlantic

2 years FTC available immediately

£45k-£48k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Providing a statutory social work offer for vulnerable adults and guided by a new strategic framework for integrated social care services, you will ensure policy and procedures are developed in line with St Helena legislation and that practice standards adhere to UK expectations of social work practice. Contributing to the performance management process and identifying solutions for filling skill/capacity gaps, you will facilitate CPD and develop succession plans.

A UK Qualified Social Worker, CQSW or DipSW or equivalent, you must have a current registration with the Health Care Professionals Council or equivalent and have Practice educator or equivalent qualification. Comprehensive knowledge and experience are essential in adult legislation and practice in relation to court attendance and of implementation of a quality assurance process within Adults’ social care. With experience of compliance in relation to inspectorates in the UK you will have exercised leadership at this level. With a background in budget management you will have led multi-agency forums, commissioning and providing care packages from a budget management perspective.

This should be supported by experience in best interest decisions, adults safeguarding, mental capacity, deprivation of liberty, mental health, learning disabilities, older adults, palliative and end of life care, commissioning of care packages and training. Your substantial practice experience in social work will have a significant element of safeguarding children and young people plus work with vulnerable adults, and skill in presenting advice and evidence in critical settings.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • An International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh
  • Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh
  • Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary

Company

For an Island of just 47 square miles St Helena is rich in unique environmental and cultural heritage.

In the capital of Jamestown nearly every building is listed because of its historic importance while its Main Street has been described as ‘one of the best examples of unspoilt Georgian architecture anywhere in the world.’

The St Helena National Trust is responsible for the protection, enhancement and promotion of the Island’s natural and built heritage which include restoring the Island’s fragile Gumwood forests, conserving the endemic Wirebird, promoting the protection of the historic buildings and fortifications, and educating and training local people.

There is also a Heritage Society which continues to develop the Museum of St Helena with temporary exhibitions both encouraging repeat visits from Islanders and tourists alike.
